A woman was injured Tuesday afternoon when a school bus carrying nine students collided with a vehicle on 45th Street North next to Stucky Middle School, authorities said.
Wichita police Lt. Don Phelps said the woman driving the bus “just didn’t see anyone coming” when she pulled in front of the vehicle, which was headed east on 45th Street about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday. The vehicle struck the bus, leaving its passenger with “very minor injuries,” Phelps said. The woman hurt was taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment and released shortly after, he said.
Phelps said the bus driver had picked up the students from Stucky Middle School shortly before the crash occurred. None of children were hurt, he said, but a third vehicle at the crash scene received damage from debris.
Nine students were on the bus at the time. Wichita school district spokeswoman Susan Arensman said they were taken home on another bus after the crash.
Traffic in the area was blocked for about an hour while authorities conducted their investigation, Phelps said.
