The Kansas Humane Society is getting into the Black Friday spirit with free adoption of black or mostly black animals.

The special will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. Longtime Kansas Humane Society supporter Marni Stevens is underwriting the event.

Adoption fees will be cut in half for all other animals, including kittens and small mammals. As part of Friday’s events, free “Black Dog Club” T-shirts will be available, while supplies last, with a donation to the shelter. The Humane Society’s retail store also will have various specials.

Studies have shown that black animals are usually adopted a lower rate than other animals.
