A 12-year-old student at Hadley Middle School was arrested Monday morning after he attacked a teacher and another school employee, police said.

The boy became angry during class at about 10 a.m. Monday, police reports say, and punched and shoved his teacher, 31. He then punched and shoved a special education teacher, 56, who attempted to intervene.

Then, Lt. Doug Nolte said, “he took off a metal table leg and threw it at the teacher.”

The boy was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center. He has previously been diagnosed with an emotional disorder, Nolte said, “and that probably contributed to the outburst in classroom.”

Neither teacher was seriously injured, Nolte said.
