About 100 people turned out Monday morning for Veterans Day with a wreath-laying ceremony at Wichita’s Veterans Memorial Park.
The group moved through the park, laying wreaths at about a dozen memorials, including those for World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Recordings of the official songs for each service branch were played.
“I was pleasantly surprised by the turnout, with the weather and forecast and never having done it this way before,” said Bryson Allen, board chairman for Veterans Memorial Park Inc., which organized the event.
For the first time, different service organizations were involved in the ceremony, he said.
