Police: Man gets violent trying to stop drunken friend from driving

While friends are often told to not let friends drive drunk, a Wichita man may have gone too far in preventing his friend from driving.

While friends are often told to not let friends drive drunk, a Wichita man may have gone too far in preventing his friend from driving.

Wichita police were called to the 2700 block of West Timbercreek Circle shortly after 8:10 p.m. Saturday, according to Sgt. Bart Brunscheen, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.

Two men had driven to a residence in that block, near Meridian and 53rd Street North, to visit a friend. While at the house, a physical fight broke out between one of the visitors and the resident, a 31-year-old man.

The visitor struck the resident because he thought he was too intoxicated to drive, Brunscheen said.

The man hit his friend on the side of the head, cutting the man’s ear. The man then left on foot with the victim’s wallet.

Police are searching for the man, Brunscheen said, and are considering the case aggravated robbery.
