Kansas City police arrested a man Wednesday night after he allegedly beat his teenage daughter with his fists and a vehicle fan belt.
Police reports gave this account:
The 15-year-old girl arrived home in the 1300 block of Highland Avenue about 9 p.m., and her father asked her where she had been. He allegedly slammed her to the floor and told the girl’s mother to “grab the belt.” The woman fetched the belt, and the father allegedly used it to hit the girl 10 times, causing welts to both arms. He then allegedly punched her in the face several times.
The victim told police she tried without success to restrain her father’s hands so he could not hit her. He then allegedly choked her, but she did not lose consciousness.
The father told the girl to take him to the place where she had been that night. They drove around looking for the home, but the girl said she could not remember the address, so her father allegedly punched her face, causing a scratch. When they arrived back home, the father allegedly threw her to the floor and began to hit her. A witness pulled him off her, and the girl locked herself in a bathroom until police arrived.
The girl’s parents do not speak English, police said.
The 47-year-old father told police, through a translator, that he was angry his daughter returned home late and that he had slapped her face four times. The girl’s mother told police through the translator that the girl fell into a refrigerator. The witness initially said he had to pull the father off the girl but later said he did not see anything.
Jackson County prosecutors on Thursday were reviewing the police file.
