A 56-year-old man was arrested following a beating that sent another man to the hospital in critical condition Sunday night, police said.

Someone called 911 at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday to report two neighbors on the front porch covered in blood in the 100 block of North Ash, Lt. Doug Nolte said. Officers arrived at the house near Douglas and Grove to find a 57-year-old man lying on his face unconscious, so they called EMS.

The victim was taken to Wesley Medical Center with serious injuries, Nolte said. He had “extreme trauma to both eyes,” he said, and was bleeding profusely.

Doctors inserted a breathing tube and placed the victim into a medical coma to enhance the healing process, Nolte said.

There is no indication any weapons were used in the attack, he said.
