County prosecutors last week charged a 29-year-old Wichita man with the lewd fondling or touching of an 11-year-old.
Erick R. Powell faces one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child amid allegations he committed the crime “with the intent to arouse or satisfy the sexual desires” of himself, the child or both on or about Oct. 24, according to a complaint filed Thursday in Sedgwick County District Court.
Powell was booked into Sedgwick County Jail around 1 a.m. Wednesday, jail records show. His arrest came after a 30-year-old woman told police Tuesday night that Powell had been seen simulating a sexual act with the child, according to a summary of the incident listed on a media report generated by the police department.
Powell remained in custody Saturday evening, in lieu of $100,000 bond. His preliminary hearing in the case has been set for Nov. 14.
Aggravated indecent liberties with a child younger than 14 is a Jessica’s Law crime, which draws a mandatory sentence of life without parole for 25 years upon conviction.
