Wichita police found the body of a man in a home near 16th and St. Francis on Monday evening and are treating it as a suspicious death.
The death of the man, in his early to mid-30s, is being treated as suspicious “because there are a lot of unanswered questions,” said police Lt. Don Phelps.
Phelps said police were told the man lived at the home alone.
He gave the following account: At 5:18 p.m., emergency dispatchers received a call to “check the welfare” of the man at the house. At 5:22 p.m., officers arrived and found a woman who said her brother was inside and appeared to be injured.
Police have yet to positively identify the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Police were waiting on paperwork Monday evening to allow them to investigate further inside the residence.
As they waited, police put up crime scene tape around the house. Crime scene investigators were taking photos in the front yard.
As investigators began working, several people came to the crime scene, crying and consoling each other on the sidewalk in front of the house.
Police said they would release more information at a media briefing Tuesday morning.
