Former state Sen. Jean Schodorf plans to formally announce next week her run against Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach.
A news release said Schodorf, a former Republican who joined the Democratic Party this year, will formally announce her candidacy at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Drury Plaza Hotel Broadview in Wichita.
Schodorf had considered finishing out Democrat Nile Dillmore’s term in the Kansas House, but she bowed out and endorsed John Carmichael for the seat.
Schodorf served in the Senate from January 2001 to January 2013 but switched parties after her Senate term expired, saying that the GOP had left its moderates behind.
She was defeated in the 2012 primary race against then-Wichita City Council member Michael O’Donnell.
