The Renwick school board has approved a resolution to terminate the contract of Garden Plain High School principal Troy McChristian and suspend him without pay, officials said Tuesday.
McChristian, who was arrested in December on suspicion of driving under the influence, improper backing and no insurance, had been placed on administrative leave on Sept. 6.
In a resolution approved unanimously Monday, the Renwick board cited McChristian’s “failure to model honesty and integrity as a building leader” and “failure to exercise good judgment” as reasons for his termination.
The resolution also pointed to McChristian’s “failure to report a criminal charge and withholding of critical information from the administration and board” and his “failure to conduct himself in a professional manner.”
Renwick superintendent Tracey Borne, who has been serving as acting principal at Garden Plain High, will continue in that role for at least the rest of the year, Borne said Tuesday.
McChristian, 35, was in his fifth year as principal of the high school in western Sedgwick County. He came to Garden Plain from Nickerson, where he had most recently served as assistant high school principal and athletic director.
“Obviously, he (McChristian) has a right to a hearing, and if he chooses to do that, then we will have to do that,” Borne said.
