The record: A searchable list of registered offenders.
Why you’d want it: To be aware of sexual and violent offenders who live near you or your family.
Where you get it: Go to www.sheriffalerts.com. You may click on a state and then on a county sheriff’s office. Click on the “Search for Offenders in Your Area” button on the top left side of the home page. Then you can input your address and find offenders registered nearby. For a broader search, click the link under “Other Search Options” to find all published offenders registered with the office.
