The 38-year-old man killed when his motorcycle collided with a semi on Thursday has been identified by police as Bartholomew Jordan of Wichita.
The accident happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. at Mount Vernon and Pattie, just west of Southeast Boulevard, police said. The semi was driving south on Pattie through a residential neighborhood and turning east onto Mount Vernon when a motorcycle collided with its trailer. The rider was westbound on Mount Vernon.
Witnesses told police that they saw the semi driver stop at the stop sign and edge out into the roadway to look for traffic.
“However, during the investigation, we did find that there are numerous obstructions along the roadway caused by bushes and trees which may have prevented driver of the truck from seeing the motorcycle as it approached,” said Wichita police Lt. Joe Schroeder.
Schroeder said that the speed of the motorcycle was not a factor in the accident and that blood tests showed that neither the truck driver or Jordan were impaired by drugs or alcohol.
Jordan was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident marks the city’s third motorcycle death this year, Schroeder said.
