David Conner is identified by a Wichita police report as the person found dead this week at the scene of a fire that was set intentionally.
Fire officials, however, said Thursday a positive identification won’t be available until an autopsy is completed. Until then, Capt. Stuart Bevis said in an e-mail, “Everything else is an assumption.”
“We have pieces of information that may indicate an identity,” he added, “but with burns of this severity we have to rely on other means such as dental or DNA.”
According to the police report, Conner, 61, was the victim found at the scene of Tuesday afternoon’s fire at a house in the 800 block of West Savannah, near Pawnee and Seneca. The body was found between the front of a parked vehicle in the driveway and the garage door.
Matthew Haner, son of the woman who lives at the house, told The Eagle on Tuesday that the SUV parked in the driveway belonged to his mother’s estranged boyfriend and that she had obtained a temporary restraining order from stalking against the man.
Sedgwick County District Court records show that Haner’s mother was granted the temporary restraining order last week.
