In an effort to better connect with neighborhoods, the Wichita Police Department is rolling out Facebook pages for each of its patrol bureaus.
Patrol West has had a Facebook page for about three months, while Patrol North’s page went active at the end of August. Pages for Patrol South and Patrol East are still being developed, Lt. Doug Nolte said.
“It’s just another way for us to connect with the community,” Nolte said. “It’s like any of our social media strategies. Our goal is to meet people where they’re at. We’re getting good feedback from it.”
The pages alert residents of traffic issues, crime trends and neighborhood meeting dates. Their content will evolve as needs dictate, Nolte said.
He’d like the pages to become “a real-time police blotter.”
“If you want to know what’s happening in your part of the city, that’s the best place to go,” Nolte said.
“Our goal is and our hope is we can post crime trends that are being seen – that stuff that we’re seeing out in the field,” Nolte said.
“We’d love to see citizen input” about the content on the pages, Nolte said.
