A 56-year-old North Newton man was killed Friday and his two passengers were taken to the hospital after the car was struck head-on by a car changing lanes.
The accident happened in Cherokee County on U.S. 160 five miles west of K-7, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The North Newton man, Frank Williams, was eastbound on U.S. 160 when he was hit by a westbound vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle had changed lanes to avoid slowing traffic when her car struck Williams’ vehicle, the highway patrol said.

Williams’ passengers, a 47-year-old woman and a 49-year-old woman, both from Hesston, were taken to a hospital in Joplin, Mo., for treatment. On Saturday, the 49-year-old woman was in fair condition, but the hospital had no patient listed under the 47-year-old’s name.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 31-year-old Columbus woman, and her 1-year-old passenger were also taken to the Joplin hospital. The 31-year-old was listed in critical condition Saturday, according to the hospital; the toddler – a boy – had been discharged.
