A Wichita man who worked as a substitute teacher for the Wichita school district was arrested Sept. 11 on suspicion of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

Jarrod Alan Acquistapace, 31, remains in the Sedgwick County Jail on charges that he unlawfully engaged in sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl in August, according to court records.

Wichita school district officials said Acquistapace “was in our substitute database” from Sept. 21, 2011, until Wednesday. They did not say how often he worked as a substitute teacher or at which schools.

“He hasn’t been a substitute this school year. He did have a background check,” spokeswoman Susan Arensman said in an e-mail.

Acquistapace is being held at the Sedgwick County Jail on a $150,000 bond, records show. He is awaiting his preliminary hearing, which has been delayed until Oct. 16.
