Skeletal remains found near Winfield identified

Skeletal remains found northwest of Winfield in March have been identified as those of Adam Tyler Miller, who was thought to be a homeless man from New Mexico, Cowley County Sheriff Don Read said Monday.
The remains were identified through DNA testing and information gained from a hospital wristband that Miller was wearing at the time, Read said.
There was no indication that Miller, 38, died from foul play, according to a forensic science report, the sheriff said. The remains were discovered on March 11 in the 7000 block of 146th Road.
Read said it was known that Miller had been in the Arkansas City and Winfield area. He had been arrested for criminal trespassing on a railroad twice within three days in September 2012 in Arkansas City.
Miller was booked into the Cowley County Jail after the second incident. At the time, he told authorities he had several significant health problems and was homeless, Read said.
No bond was set, so he was released that same day. There was no further contact with law enforcement, Read said.
Prior to his arrest, Miller had been caught by railroad authorities for being on railroad property or trains.
An investigation showed Miller was from Albuquerque, although he hadn’t had contact with family members from that area since leaving about five years earlier.
