Junior livestock show to sell winners at tonight’s auction

Champion and reserve market steers, hogs, lambs and meat goats will be sold Monday night during the Kansas Junior Livestock Show auction at the Kansas Pavilions.

Champion and reserve market steers, hogs, lambs and meat goats will be sold Monday night during the Kansas Junior Livestock Show auction at the Kansas Pavilions.

The auction starts at 7 p.m. and is open to the public. Livestock show winners were selected over the weekend.

In the grand champion steer drive, a 1,337-pound crossbred led by Shilo Schaake of Westmoreland captured top honors. Brooke Jensen of Courtland owned the reserve grand, a 1,296-pound crossbred.

Layne Pettijohn of Cedar had the grand champion market hog, a 269-pound dark crossbred. Caitlin Dreher of Iola exhibited the reserve grand champion, a 283-pound Yorkshire.

Schaake also owned the grand champion market lamb, a 148-pound entry from the natural division. Taylor Stanley of Baldwin showed the reserve grand, a 153-pound Suffolk.

Lakin Cherry of Girard received grand champion honors with her 78-pound meat goat. Allyson Rudd of Bucklin had the 71-pound reserve champion.

The show is sponsored by Kansas Livestock Association, Kansas State University and the Agri-Business Council of Wichita.
