Prosecutors on Thursday charged a Wichita man with aggravated battery of his 8-day-old son after authorities discovered earlier this week that the infant’s leg had been broken.
During his charging hearing Thursday afternoon, Ronald W. Finney acknowledged the boy’s injury but claimed it was unintentional. Police arrested the 27-year-old after his son’s mother took the baby to the emergency room with a fractured femur Tuesday night.
“Yes, your honor,” Finney said as Sedgwick County District Judge Warren Wilbert advised him of the battery charge. “That was a total accident, your honor.”
Finney is held in Sedgwick County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 3. On a financial affidavit filed with the court, Finney indicated his wife and two children – a son and a daughter – lived with him at an address in the 300 block of East Pine.
A hospital house supervisor said Thursday he was unable to release a condition update on the infant.
