Former Bishop Carroll quarterback Blake Bell will make his first college start on Saturday when Oklahoma takes on Tulsa at 11 a.m.
Bell will start at quarterback in place of Trevor Knight. Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said Knight has an injured knee and may be out for as long as two weeks. After the Tulsa game, the Sooners are off for a week and then travel to Notre Dame.
Knight, a redshirt freshman, surprisingly beat Bell for the starting spot in preseason practices, but he has struggled in his first two games. The Sooners won both, but did not look impressive on offense. Bell replaced Knight late in a victory over West Virginia and rushed for 21 yards.
Bell has seen significant playing time at Oklahoma as a short-yardage runner. Coming into his junior season, he had rushed for 372 yards and 24 touchdowns on 104 attempts. He had also thrown for 115 yards while completing 10 of 20 passes.
