A 40-year-old man was killed Tuesday afternoon when the van he was driving was hit by a car at the intersection of K-96 and Meridian.
The man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the van as it rolled over and came to rest on top of him, according to Capt. Rusty Leeds, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.
The accident happened at 3:30 p.m.
“The indications are that a white car was attempting to turn left on K-96 from northbound Meridian and the van was traveling southbound on Meridian in the southbound lane,” Leeds said.
The white car was driven by an 82-year-old woman who had the green arrow from the traffic signal, Leeds said.
The full sized GMC panel van flipped and rolled over on its side.
The 40-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 82-year-old woman was rushed to a local hospital. She did not appear to have life-threatening injuries, Leeds said.
