A 23-year-old Wichita man died Sunday after a one-car crash where police say alcohol and excessive speed were the cause.
Tan B. Tran was ejected on impact after the car he was driving crashed on westbound East Pawnee, hitting the concrete support of the bridge where the Kansas Turnpike goes over Pawnee in south Wichita, police said.
One witness told police he was driving in the same direction on Pawnee at 40 miles per hour and that Tran’s car passed him going much faster, said Lt. Joe Schroeder of the Wichita police.
It was the 22nd fatal accident so far this year, Schroeder said. That number exceeds the 14 fatal accidents Wichita had at this time last year, when 24 people died in accidents during that year, he said. “People need to drive slow, drive safe and do not drink and drive,” he said.
