A donation site for dozens of victims who lost their possessions in the fire at Ashley Lane Apartments will be open two days over the holiday weekend.
Items may be dropped off at His Helping Hands furniture bank, 1441 E. 37th St. N., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, the organization’s executive director, Paul Dohm, said. The site will be closed Sunday and Monday, but will reopen Tuesday at 9 a.m.
Donations are accepted weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon, Dohm said.
Items needed for the fire victims include clothing, twin- and full-sized beds, bed linens, pillows, wash cloths and bath towels, dressers, night stands, dinnerware, cutlery, dining tables and chairs, living room furniture, child car seats, toys and any other household necessity. For more information, call 316-838-8528.
About 70 residents of the apartment, 2250 S. Oliver, were displaced after a fire destroyed their homes early Tuesday morning. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
