An Oklahoma man is facing charges in Sedgwick County District Court in connection with sex crimes committed against a 13-year-old.
Mario Leon White, 29, of Enid, Okla., was charged Wednesday afternoon with two counts of raping a child who is younger than 14. The crimes allegedly occurred between September and December 2012, according to a complaint dated Jan. 28 that was filed against him.
Authorities learned of the abuse on Jan. 10 after a woman told police the teen had been a victim of indecent liberties crimes, according to a Wichita Police Department incident report. A day after the complaint alleging the rape was filed, a Sedgwick County District Court judge issued a warrant for his arrest, court records show.
On Tuesday, White was booked into Sedgwick County Jail, where he remains in custody in lieu of $100,000 bond. A jail booking report shows he was apprehended in San Antonio.
White is due back in court Sept. 11 for a preliminary hearing. He has requested a court appointed attorney.
“Do you understand the charges?” Sedgwick County District Court Judge Gregory Waller asked White on Wednesday during his first appearance.
“I can hear what you’re saying,” White replied. “But this is ridiculous.”
