The city of Lawrence is creating a bus service for home football game days that will allow University of Kansas game spectators to park for free in downtown garages and take a $1 bus ride to Memorial Stadium, the university said in a news statement Monday.

The bus service will be for all seven home games on Saturdays. City officials hope fans will use the shops and restaurants downtown while they visit.

The city will make sure parking in the New Hampshire Street Parking Garage and on the lower level and ramps of the Riverfront Parking Garage will be free for game days, KU said.

Buses will run two hours before kickoff and one hour after the game, the statement said. Signs on the buses will display #11 Downtown/Football Service.
