Two burglars thought they’d picked out a prime place to pilfer property early Friday morning — until they came face-to-face with a resident pointing a gun at them.

They turned tail and fled, police said.

The incident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. Friday in the 7100 block of West Shade, Wichita police Lt. Joe Schroeder said. That’s near Central and Ridge Road in west Wichita.

The two suspects kicked in the door to an apartment, Schroeder said, and that woke up a 23-year-old man who lives there. He grabbed a 9mm Glock and confronted the would-be burglars, who took off running when they saw the gun.

Neither the man with the gun nor the 26-year-old woman who also lives there were injured, Schroeder said.

The first burglar is a white male in his 20s who is about 6 feet tall and 170 pounds, the victim told police. He had blond hair and a buzz cut. He was wearing black basketball shorts and a gray tank top.

The victim did not get a good look at the second burglar.
