A 25-year-old man was charged Wednesday with raping a 12-year-old girl, Sedgwick County District Court records show.

Zachary E. Coon, who listed a Winfield address on one court document, faces two counts of rape and one count of aggravated criminal sodomy involving the girl. The crimes – all felonies – allegedly occurred in November and December, according to the complaint filed against him. Wichita police were notified on Aug. 5, two police reports show.

Coon was booked into Sedgwick County Jail at 6:09 p.m. Monday, according to an online search of inmates. He remained in custody Wednesday evening in lieu of $100,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 5. He has requested a court-appointed attorney.

On a financial affidavit filed Wednesday with the court, Coon indicated he has been unemployed for four years – citing law school as the reason he received no unemployment benefits – and that his parents provided $1,200 monthly toward his support. A jail booking report lists Coon as a resident of Lansing, Mich.
