A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after officers investigating a possible burglary found a puppy that had been beaten to death.
A woman who lives in a duplex in the 2600 block of East Elm called 911 just after 11:30 p.m. Monday to report what sounded like a potential burglary in progress, Lt. Doug Nolte said. She also said the tenant next door may have killed a puppy with a baseball bat.
The duplex is north of Central and west of I-135. Officers responding to the address found the dead puppy and the baseball bat, Nolte said.
The man was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of animal cruelty. Nolte said he did not know the age or breed of the puppy.
