Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 13 astronaut Fred Haise and other astronauts will visit the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson this Saturday for a public fundraising event, a spokesman for the event said.
The Fly Around Dine Around reception will include food, door prizes and the astronauts sharing memories of their missions.
Aldrin will sign copies of his new book “Mission to Mars: My Vision for Space Exploration,” in which he argues the value of sending manned missions to the red planet. Aldrin landed on the moon in 1969 with Neil Armstrong and was the second human to walk on the moon’s surface.
Aldrin will be joined by astronauts Steve Hawley, a native Kansan, and Jeff Ashby in book and model signings from 1 to 3 p.m. Other astronauts attending include Richard Gordon, who flew Apollo 12, the second mission in which NASA landed a crew on the moon.
The reception lasts from 6 to 9:30 p.m.; tickets are available by calling 620-665-9312. Tickets are $40 for Cosmosphere members, $50 for nonmembers.
Details of the event are available at www.cosmo.org.
