The man whose body was found in a west Wichita pond Saturday night appears to have committed suicide, police said Monday.

The 32-year-old man was last seen by family on Wednesday morning, Capt. Brent Allred said. A motorist passing by Central Community Church just after 7:30 p.m. called to report seeing a body in the pond in the 6100 block of West Maple.

“Everything indicated this is more than likely a suicide,” Allred said. “This individual was having some issues.”

A police report stated that the man had left a suicide note and made suicidal statements to a family member. He lived not far from the pond, Allred said.

An autopsy is being performed to confirm the cause of death, he said. The man appears to have been in the pond for several days — likely since Wednesday, Allred said.
