A 25-year-old man who was shot while trying to elude law enforcement officers in southeast Kingman County on Friday night has been booked into the Kingman County Jail after being treated at a Wichita hospital.

Kingman County Sheriff Randy Hill said officers were trying to serve an arrest warrant on Nash W. Rathbun when he tried to escape in a vehicle, nearly striking two officers who were on foot. Hill said at least one officer fired on the vehicle, which was then pursued east into Sumner County before being stopped.

Rathbun was treated at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis before being taken to jail.

Kansas Department of Corrections records show that Rathbun was paroled from the Winfield Correctional Facility in November after serving time on theft charges. He was listed as an absconder on Aug. 1.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has been asked to assist with the investigation into the shooting, Hill said.
