A 24-year-old Jetmore man was hurt Saturday in a fiery collision between his pickup truck and a semi-tractor trailer truck along U.S. 283 in Hodgeman County.
Francisco J. Erives-Maldanado was northbound on the highway when he veered left of center into oncoming traffic about 6:17 a.m., according to a crash report from the Kansas Highway Patrol. A semi in his path tried to avoid the collision, but Erives-Maldanado struck its passenger side and the semi caught fire, KHP said.
Erives-Maldanado was taken to Wesley Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition Saturday evening, a hospital operator said. The driver of the semi, 54-year-old Jimmy McGuire of Glen Elder, was transported to Jetmore Hospital, according to KHP.
The crash happened about 25 miles north of Dodge City, near Jetmore.
