A man trying to break up a dispute between a gas station clerk and a suspected shoplifter had his car stolen during the altercation, according to Wichita police.
The 31-year-old man pulled into the parking lot of Valero at 851 S. Meridian after seeing an argument between a 26-year-old man – identified in a police report as the gas station’s clerk – and a 34-year-old woman, who reportedly stole items from the store. When the 31-year-old man tried to intervene, the woman got into the passenger’s seat of his car, Wichita police Lt. Doug Nolte said, then shuffled over to the driver’s side when he ordered her out.
During the 3½-minute fight that ensued, Nolte said, the woman kicked the 31-year-old man out of the car, then “nearly ran him over.” She smashed into Valero’s ice freezer as she fled in the car, according to a police report, then got out and walked northbound on Meridian.
Police found and arrested the woman at 800 S. Meridian, according to the police report. She was jailed on suspicion of aggravated robbery, aggravated battery, theft, simple assault and vandalism, Nolte said.
Valero recovered sunglasses stolen in the incident but a $3 shoplifted burrito was eaten by the woman, according to the police report.
