American Indian flute concert, dance scheduled at Shawnee Mission State Historic Site

The Shawnee Mission State Historic Site is hosting an American Indian flute concert beginning at 6:30 pm, July 27 in Fairway, near Kansas City.
The concert will begin around a campfire near an 1850s cabin. Performers include Elvin Barchers, Leo Fabro and the Spirit Talkers. It includes both American Indian flute musicians and American Indian dancers.
Cost is $8. Proceeds from the concert will go toward the mission’s west building fund.
The Shawnee Indian Mission is at 3403 W. 53rd Street in Fairway. From 1839 to 1862, the mission served as a manual training school for Shawnee, Delaware, Kaw, Osage and other American Indian tribes.
