A new billboard for Ballet Wichita 5K Art Run will be unveiled at 10 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Kellogg and Ridge Road.
The painting was created by former Wichitan Rachel Kice, an artist who now lives in Los Angeles. The image will be circulated among other Clear Channel Outdoor billboards in Wichita throughout the year.
This year’s Ballet Wichita 5K Art Run was June 22. More than 76 percent of the nearly 300 runners participated in creating the billboard, which features their handprints and footprints in splashes of different colors of paint.
This is the second year Ballet Wichita has created a billboard. It uses it to help promote awareness of the organization and the many different kinds of art found in Wichita each year, said Barbara Chamberlin, executive director of Ballet Wichita.
Although Ballet Wichita participates in various events throughout the year, Chamberlin said it is best known for its annual production each December of “The Nutcracker,” as well as Ballet in the Park each June. The organization has been performing in Wichita and Kansas since 1974.
