Bob Dole, the former U.S. senator and Senate majority leader from Kansas, turns 90 on July 22, and the institute named for him at the University of Kansas will mark the day with public events honoring him.

The Robert J. Dole Institute said in a statement that cake will be served, a birthday card for signing and family activities are planned. The event is free.

The institute, with the Lawrence Public Library, will also host a story time at 2:30 p.m. in the institute’s Simons Media Room, sharing stories, political button-making, gallery scavenger hunts and a putt-putt golf hole.
