Wichita police were not releasing any information Sunday on an overnight shooting that left one person dead and four injured.
The shooting occurred near 11th and Mosley at 3:20 Sunday morning, according to a Sedgwick County dispatcher.
The area where the shooting occurred is an industrial area north of downtown Wichita. It is surrounded by warehouses, office buildings and a grain elevator.
According to a police scanner audio report provided by Broadcastify, people shouting and screaming can be heard in the background as police officers and dispatchers relay information.
Officers quickly blocked 11th street between Mead and Mosley.
An officer tells dispatchers, “We’ve got a victim right here. He’s shot.”
Moments later the officer says, “Looks like Code Red,” meaning “serious condition.”
People can be overheard shouting “No” and screaming.
The officers then tells a dispatcher, “I’ve got about 30 people standing out here. I need other officers here.”
An emergency signal is issued, and a dispatcher says, “Officer in trouble. Shooting at 11th and Main.”
Another officer says a few minutes later, “Does sheriff have anyone that can assist us?”
A dispatcher says, “Let me check on that.”
The dispatcher comes back on a few seconds later: “That’s negative. There’s nobody.”
Another dispatcher says, “We need a victim count. Triage please.”
In the end, one person was dead and four were wounded, some in serious and critical condition.
As rain started to fall, officers were advised to bring cameras to take photos and record evidence. They were told to pick up gun shell casings.
The audio report indicates victims were taken to Via Christi on St. Francis and Wesley Medical Center. One victim was found lying in an alley between two buildings.
On Sunday afternoon, Wichita police cars remained in the area, blocking 11th Street between Mead and Mosley while officers continued to investigate the case.
