Bill Hanna, former president of Koch Industries, has been awarded the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America’s 2013 Charles G. Berwind Lifetime Achievement Award, its highest national honor.
Hanna was the first chair of the Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters board of directors and has served on the national board since 2002. He accepted the award Tuesday at the big Brothers Big Sisters national conference in Denver.
Hanna was selected as the recipient by a committee of his peers. The award, named after the organization’s founder, honors “outstanding volunteer leaders who have devoted substantial time and energy over the course of their lives to the cause of youth mentoring,” according to a news release.
In addition to this work with the state and national boards, Hanna also has been a Big Brother for almost 10 years through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sedgwick County.
Also honored Tuesday was David Sherman, who serves as the Kansas chapter’s senior vice president of grants and innovation. He was awarded the Skip Walsh Award for his generosity and support toward colleagues.
Sherman has worked for Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters for 19 years.
