A documented gang member wanted on several arrest warrants was trying to elude police early Wednesday morning when he decided it would be a good idea to jump out of his car.
The problem? The car was going 50 to 60 miles an hour through a residential area of northeast Wichita.
When he landed, Lt. Doug Nolte said, the 22-year-old man broke his wrist and his ankle. His driverless car crashed into a house in the 1600 block of North Estelle at about 1 a.m. Wednesday. That’s northeast of 13th and Grove.
The gang member was arrested and taken to Wesley Medical Center, where he was admitted for treatment of his injuries. A 20-year-old woman who was riding with him was not injured when the car crashed into the house, Nolte said.
