A 30-year-old Wichita man remains in critical condition at Wesley Medical Center after an incident Friday night left him with a severe brain injury, police said.
Police Sgt. Bruce Watts said the man was attending a barbecue in the 700 block of South Beverly around 11:30 p.m. when other guests found him lying on the ground unconscious with facial injuries. Police aren’t sure what happened to the man, but Watts said he may have been battered and robbed.
The man regained consciousness, and originally told police he suffered a seizure and hit his head. But later, Watts said, the man changed his story and claimed he didn’t know what happened to him.
The victim was taken to Wesley, where a CAT scan revealed a “massive brain bleed,” Watts said. The man underwent emergency surgery, and was in “very critical” condition after the operation, requiring a respirator to breathe, Watts said.
