One person was hurt in a drive-by shooting early Friday morning in Wichita, authorities said.
A 16-year-old boy was outside a house near 26th and Ash — just east of I-135 and north of 21st Street — at about 1:15 a.m. Friday when he saw a black SUV with tinted windows stopped at the intersection, Lt. Joe Schroeder said. He heard three shots and then realized he had been hit in the shoulder.
Callers to 911 reported hearing several shots, Schroeder said, and officers responding to the report found a side mirror on a car had been broken off by what appeared to be a shotgun blast. The teen was wounded by a single pellet from a shotgun blast and was treated at the scene.
A mailbox in the area was also hit by a shotgun blast, Schroeder said. No suspect description has been released, he said, because witnesses could not see the people inside the SUV.
