A 3-year-old boy suffered potentially life-threatening head injuries Saturday afternoon when a console television fell off a dresser and struck him during a family gathering, authorities said.
Wichita police Sgt. Ron Hunt said the boy was among a group of young children playing with a videogame console in a bedroom when the “large, box-style TV” and dresser tipped over on him.
Adults in a neighboring room heard the crash and immediately called 911, he said.
The boy was rushed by ambulance to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in what Hunt described as “very critical condition.” He remained critical Saturday evening, police said.
The accident happened around 4 p.m. Saturday at a home in the 2200 block of North Waco, near 21st Street between Broadway and Arkansas, according to Sedgwick County dispatch.
Wichita police are investigating, which is standard procedure any time a young child is severely injured in what’s reported as a home accident, Hunt said.
