Wichita police say a woman fought off an attacker who assaulted and may have tried to kidnap her Friday night at the intersection of Woodlawn and Mount Vernon.
The 38-year-old told police she had yielded at a stop sign at the intersection around 10 p.m. when a man she didn’t know approached her vehicle and got in the passenger-side door, said Sgt. Bruce Watts, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department. The man then reportedly grabbed the woman’s hair and punched her face.
Fearing the man wanted to abduct her, the woman “produced a pocket knife and started to stab and cut the suspect until he exited the vehicle,” Watts said. After the man fled, the woman reportedly drove to her home and called police.
Watts said officers were unable to locate the man. An ambulance transported the woman to a local hospital, where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released, he said.
A suspect description was not available.
