A 43-year-old woman was hospitalized after being hit twice in the head with a hammer during a fight with her husband early Friday morning, police said.
The couple got into an argument shortly before 4:45 a.m. Friday in the 1400 block of North Kansas, a couple of blocks east of 13th and I-135, Wichita police Lt. Doug Nolte said.
At some point during the dispute, the woman began to fear for her safety, so she jumped behind a couch, Nolte said. The husband reportedly grabbed a hammer, came over the top of the couch and hit her twice in the head with it.
Police were called, Nolte said, and officers notified EMS after seeing her injuries. She was taken to Wesley Medical Center and admitted for observation. Her 56-year-old husband was arrested.
