A brief struggle between a robber and a man resulted in the victim being shot in the buttocks as he ran away, Wichita police said Saturday.

The victim, around 24 years old, was taken on Friday night to Via Christi Hospital on East Harry, where he was in “non-critical condition,” Sgt. Bruce Watts said. The man also suffered cuts to his head and face.

Watts gave this account: The incident occurred around 9 p.m. Friday in the 6500 block of East Cottonwood, near Kellogg and Woodlawn. The victim said he was walking to a woman’s house when an unknown suspect wearing a mask approached him armed with a gun. The two struggled, and the victim was shot in the buttocks as he ran off. Police learned of the incident after the victim arrived at the hospital. The victim was “very uncooperative” with police, Watts said.
