Morning rain slowed the morning commute Wednesday, with showers and thunderstorms expected in the Wichita area off and on throughout the day, forecasters say. The strongest storms are expected to come tonight, moving into the region from central Kansas.
The primary threats in the Wichita area will be large hail, heavy rains and downburst winds, according to the National Weather Service.
High temperatures are expected to reach the mid-70s under partly sunny skies, forecasters say, with south winds in the teens. Gusts will climb into the mid-20s.
Storms will continue overnight, with lows ducking under 60 and winds still gusting to nearly 25 miles an hour. The storms should end in the Wichita area by about 8 a.m. Thursday, forecasters say, with highs eventually reaching the low 70s under cloudy skies. Chances for rain return Thursday night and persist into Saturday.
