The Kansas Food Bank, which supplies food to the needy throughout Wichita and much of Kansas, is asking for help Tuesday in obtaining a grant from Wal-Mart.

Brian Walker, the Food Bank director, is asking people to go to a Wal-Mart Facebook page and vote for their favorite food bank.

Wal-Mart has told the Food Bank that the top 40 Food Banks in the country will get $45,000 each. Walker said the money, if the Kansas Food Bank reaches the top 40, would be used to help pay for the Food Bank’s Food 4 Kids program, which supplies backpacks of food on Fridays for children in schools who might not have enough food to eat on weekends.

The Facebook page can be found at https://apps.facebook.com/walmartlocal/?applet=hunger&organization=208

Today is the last day for online voting, he said.
