‘Healing of the Black Woman’ focus of coalition event

Local coalition Black Women Empowered in Wichita will host its free event “The Healing of the Black Woman” next weekend in Wichita.

Facilitators will host three discussions covering spiritual, physical and mental issues facing black women, starting at 9 a.m. April 27 at Madison Avenue Residences clubhouse, 1005 N. Madison.

A group dialogue will follow. Participants are asked to bring their favorite comfort food to share.

The event is open to black women ages 14 or older. It ends at 2 p.m.

“We’ve been perceived too long as a superwoman,” coalition member Mary Dean said of black women. “We take care of everybody, but we miss taking care of ourselves.”
