A Texas man died early Wednesday after he lost control of a truck on an icy Ottawa County bridge, the Kansas Highway Patrol said.

Henry E. McWilliams, 19, of Rockwell, Texas, was driving north on U.S. 81 five miles south of Minneapolis when he encountered the ice, the highway patrol said. He lost control of a 2003 GMC, slid into a ditch and overturned about 5:20 a.m.

McWilliams, who was trapped inside the vehicle, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, the highway patrol said.

At the same time, slick road conditions left an Oxford man with serious injuries on K-96 near the Reno-Sedgwick county line. Bryce D. Keats, 38, was westbound in a 2001 Chevrolet truck when he lost control on an icy bridge and rolled, the highway patrol said.

Keats remained in serious condition at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis on Wednesday evening, a hospital house supervisor said.
